TRUSSVILLE – It may have come a day later than Spain Park would have wanted, but the Jaguars are undefeated through the first half of their area schedule after defeating the Hewitt-Trussville Huskies.

Spain Park walked away from Hewitt-Trussville High School with a hard-fought 32-29 win on Saturday, Jan. 13 to improve to 3-0 in area play.

The Jags defense came flying out of the gate and locked down the Huskies. Hewitt made just one basket in the entire first quarter, which gave Spain Park a chance to capitalize.

Four different Jags scored on the offensive end of the floor to give the visitors a 9-2 lead after one quarter of play.

Spain Park kept the same offensive pace in the second quarter, spreading out their points across Nick Richardson, Korbin Long, Harrison Stewart and TJ Lamar and scoring nine points for the second straight period.

The Huskies, however, started to find success against the Jags defense and outscored Spain Park to cut the deficit to five at the half.

With the Jags needing points in a two-possession game at the start of the third, Chapman Blevins took over on offense.

After not scoring in the first half, Blevins scored six points in the third quarter to keep Spain Park’s advantage alive.

In fact, he scored as many points as the entire Hewitt offense could muster in the third, which extended the Jags lead to seven going into the fourth quarter.

Just like the first three quarters, the fourth was a low-scoring battle, but the Huskies’ Ben Warren scored eight of his team’s 10 points in the quarter to put Hewitt within striking distance.

Spain Park responded well on the free throw line and closed the game out with a 4-6 stretch from the charity stripe.

That helped the Jags hang on for a three-point win to earn their third area win of the season in a tough road environment.

Lamar led the way for Spain Park with nine points, while Blevins scored six and Long and Jackson Bradley scored four points each.
