NORTH SHELBY – The Shelby County chapter of the Tuskegee Alumni Club recently met for its annual gathering on Dec. 17. The meeting was hosted by Walter and Lydia Mathis at their Highland Lakes home and during the event, gift cards were donated by attendees for two active duty military members and their families.

During the gathering, the alumni club honored Technical Sergeant Kristopher Jackson, an Air Force enlisted recruiter with 331 Recruiting Squadron. The club also honored Staff Sergeant Jacob Hauer, an Air Force and Space Force enlisted recruiter.

Alumni Club President William Mathis was joined by club members Brigadier General Sonya Powell U.S. Army Reserves, her granddaughter Robin Seales along with others who honored these dedicated soldiers and their families.

The Shelby County AL Tuskegee Alumni Club also received a certificate of appreciation for its participation in the “Adopt a Sailor Program,” aboard the USS Carl Vinson (CVA-70).

“These sailors received little or nothing from home,” Mathis said. “However, they were very grateful for the Christmas cheer sent from Alabama. The Shelby County AL Tuskegee Alumni Club would like to thank all military members for their sacrifice and service.”
