Developer withdraws Chelsea mixed development plan

CHELSEA – A zoning request for a mixed use development at the intersection of Highway 47 and 100 Chelsea Corners Way where the Big Kaboom takes place has been withdrawn.
Village Creek Development initially presented its plans for a potential mixed-use development to the Chelsea City Council during a pre-council meeting on Dec. 5. The plans for the project would have gone before the Chelsea Planning and Zoning Commission on Dec. 26 but were withdrawn before the meeting.
“When we told them the zoning change was unlikely, they chose to withdraw it,” Mayor Tony Picklesimer said.
The proposed development would have been located on the current green space where the Big Kaboom takes place behind Chelsea Corners Way and on the other side of Hwy 47 behind Winn-Dixie and Sanpeggio’s Pizza.
A portion of the project was planned to be filled with fast and casual restaurants, service and possibly small retail locations. The development would also feature a selection of single-family housing as well as a denser version of townhouses.
The development will not proceed forward as originally pitched but Village Creek Development could come before Chelsea at a future date with a new or different proposal.
“We told them that if they put more retail to it we would reconsider it,” Picklesimer said.
