Despite not claiming a fifth State Championship Game, the Warriors have returned home as champions of the community.

Team and city rivalries can be fun through the duration of a season, but it’s also great to have a team of our own to go out and represent the greatness that Shelby County has to offer to the rest of the state. When we have a team of our own go that high, we need to be there to support them.

At the end of the day, the goal is to have a good and fair competition that showcases the hard work, effort and talent of these teams while entertaining the audiences that cheer them on.

Since 2018, Thompson High School’s Warriors have claimed four state championships in a row—representing the county on the big stage. These players have put a tremendous amount of sweat, blood and effort into these games over the past six seasons.

The Class 7A State Championship matchup against Central-Phenix was only a two-point loss, and it was against the top team in the entire state. Now is a time for the Warriors to hold their heads high as they return home and enjoy a well-deserved break so that they can recuperate and come back swinging in the next season.

Everybody loves a good comeback story. It’s through the fires of defeat that the best teams reach their full potential. Likewise, now the Warriors have the opportunity to take the lessons from this season to heart and to improve as much as they can so that they are ready to reclaim state title.
