McCALLA – After falling to the McAdory Yellow Jackets in their season opener, the Helena Huskies got their revenge on the road and split the season series.
The Huskies beat the Yellow Jackets 41-29 on Monday, Nov. 27 to snap a three-game losing streak and get back in the win column.
Helena trailed McAdory early in the game as the Yellow Jackets got out to an 11-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Despite trailing, Jaterrica Moody got the Huskies off to a solid start on the free throw as she made three free throws, while Mallory Rhodes and Isabel Heintz both made baskets.
Helena chipped away at McAdory’s lead as Amari Grant scored five of her team’s 10 points in the second quarter, including a 3-for-4 stretch from the free throw line.
The Yellow Jackets led 20-17 at the halftime break, but the Huskies were about to throw their biggest punch.
Grant and Moody erupted for 20 points between the two of them in the third quarter, accounting for all of Helena’s points during that stretch.
Grant hit five shots from the field while making three of her four free throws for 14 points in the third, while Moody backed her up with a pair of three-pointers.
Meanwhile, the Huskies defense held the Yellow Jackets to just five points during that time, and Helena took a 37-25 lead into the fourth quarter.
McAdory’s defense recovered in the final quarter of play to hold Helena to four points, but the Jackets could only match that effort offensively and didn’t cut into the Huskies’ lead.
Thanks to Helena’s defense only allowing four points from McAdory down the stretch, that let the visitors walk out with a 41-29 win.
Grant led the Huskies with 19 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks in a phenomenal all-around performance, while Moody had 12 points and nine rebounds to finish just shy of a double-double and Heintz had four points.
