The Indian Springs School French Club earned high marks at the Alabama Federation of French Clubs Annual Convention on Nov. 17 at the University of Alabama.

The following students received awards:

Senior Emily Bell earned the “grand prix,” the competition’s highest award, for her vocal performance of “Une femme liberee.” Bell also received a “superieur” rating for an impromptu advanced-level reading. She is the daughter of Dr. Charles D. Bell and Dr. Emmy Bell of Birmingham.

Juniors Margaret Sandy and Elliott Bell received “superieur” ratings for their vocal duet of “Le lion est mort ce soir.” Margaret is the daughter of Dr. Arthur Sandy and Dr. Janice Sandy of Birmingham. Elliott is the son of Richard and Cindy Bell of Birmingham.

Eighth-grader Nicole Luo received a “tres bien” rating for an individual reading. She is the daughter of Dr. Ming Luo and Dr. Jun Tsao of Vestavia Hills.

Senior Casey Stewart received a “tres bien” rating for an advanced-level individual reading. She is the daughter of Dr. David Freedman and Ms. Diane Clark of Birmingham.

ISS students also received “tres bien,” “superieur” and “bien” ratings for their French skit performances.

“We are so proud of the students and the work they did at the convention,” said Jonathan Horn, who serves with Magalie Minaud as French teachers and advisors to the school’s French Club. “We congratulate them and appreciate their efforts, which reflect so well on them and our school.”
