Thompson and Indian Springs pulled off wins Monday to push them into their respective area tournament semifinal Thursday.
Springs (11-7) downed Tarrant, 33-31, at Altamont when Sunney Poyner hit a basket with 28 seconds to play to give Springs the lead and hold on. She finished with 13 points. Springs will play Altamont on Thursday.
“We’ve had two pretty bad loses to them already,” Springs head coach Hunter Gray said. “It’s hard to be optimistic, but the girls are excited. This is our first 10-plus win season. It’s been a good year.”
Also picking up a win Monday were the Thompson Warriors, edging Oak Mountain, 36-31. After trailing, 5-1, at the end of the first quarter, Thompson went into the half up by a point, 12-11, and pulled away with a 15-11 fourth quarter. Shelbie Autrey led the Warriors with 11 points, while Marisa Tomaszewski had 10 for Oak Mountain. Thompson will take on host Hoover on Thursday.
