Homewood native wins Britton triathlon

Chad Williamson won the 2011 Buster Britton Memorial triathlon June 11 at Oak Mountain State Park.

Williamson, a 26-year-old from Homewood, finished the triathlon with a time of 59:45, which edged second-place finisher David Meadows by seven seconds.

Williamson finished the swim in 5:59, recorded the best time in the biking part of the race with a time of 32:26 and completed the run in 18:22 to capture the title.

Meadows, a 43-year-old from Birmingham, came in second overall with a time of 59:52. Travis Grappo, a 40-year-old from Birmingham, finished third with a time of 59:53.

Deanna Newman, a 40-year-old from Birmingham, led the women’s field with her time of 1:01.13, which edged second-place finisher Johanna Gartman by more than three minutes.

Gartman, a 17-year-old from Chattanooga, Tenn., finished second with her time of 1:04.22. Devon Dabney, a 24-year-old from Atlanta, Ga., came in third with her time of 1:07.04.
