PELHAM – On July 25, the Anglican Church of the Good Shepherd will host a drive thru prayer and food drive to collect food and personal items benefitting Oak Mountain Missions Ministries.

Vicar Andrew Brashier explained that the church has a close relationship with Oak Mountain Missions, which provides food, clothing, furniture and financial assistance to people in need. The mission had reached out in desperate need of donations because of unemployment or underemployment during COVID-19.

“We’ve done an endless food drive we encourage our attendees to bring in items for donation for offering to help the people at Oak Mountain Missions,” Brashier explained. “We thought we should break out and engage the community by doing a food drive on a day when the mission is not open and collecting donations.”

Another important factor in creating this event was the need to address the spiritual suffering that many people are experiencing during the pandemic.

“We also thought that people were suffering spiritually because they are not able to gather as a church,” he said. “We figured we would do a drive thru prayer so people could stay in their car. We would pray for whatever they want or just generally.”

Brashier said that the Mission is in need of fruit and vegetables, personal care items such as shampoo and soap, condiments, breakfast foods and items like spaghetti sauce, peanut butter and jelly.

The event will be safe for anyone who would like to participate. Attendees will not have to leave their cars as volunteers will be present to take any items brought for the drive. Brashier said that anyone who wants to be prayed over could roll their window down enough so that they could communicate and still be safe.

“If someone is looking for a place to worship we do an outdoor service at 9 a.m. You are always welcome,” he said.
