Harpersville qualifying begins July 7

HARPERSVILLE — Qualifying for municipal elections in the town of Harpersville begins Tuesday, July 7 at 8 a.m. and will last through Tuesday, July 21 at 5 p.m.

Municipal elections for the following public officials will be held:

  • Mayor
  • Councilmember—District 1, Place 1
  • Councilmember—District 1, Place 2
  • Councilmember—District 2, Place 1
  • Councilmember—District 2, Place 2
  • Councilmember—District 2, Place 3

All candidates must have resided within the municipality of Harpersville for at least 90 days prior to election day and who are qualified to vote in the Shelby County precinct that covers that part of the corporate limits of the town of Harpersville.

“Candidates shall qualify with the municipal elections manager, Jonathan Seale (town clerk/treasurer) at Town Hall located at 83 Town Hall Lane, Harpersville, AL  35078 during regular office hours,” reads an official statement from the town. “The qualifying period ends promptly at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21. No statement of candidacy for this election will be accepted before or after the dates and times listed herein.”

The statement continues, “All registered and qualified electors of the State, who reside within the corporate limits of the town of Harpersville, Alabama, and have resided therein for 30 days or more prior to this election date, will be authorized to participate in said election.”

Voting will take place at the Harpersville Community Center, 39321 Alabama 25, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 25, 2020.

If necessary, a runoff election will be held Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020.

Absentee ballots or applications may be obtained at Harpersville Town Hall during regular office hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
