PELHAM – Alabama Marble Mineral & Mining Co. (AM3) is bringing a showroom for its stone products to Shelby County. AM3 Surfaces, located in Pelham, will offer the public an opportunity to get an up close look at the company’s locally-sourced white marble products. The showroom is set to officially open its doors on July 17.

“We decided to bring the Alabama White to the public and cut out the middleman,” said AM3 sales representative Denise McDonald. Previously, the company had no storefront for customers, so the showroom provides a new opportunity for prospective home builders and remodelers to get a hands-on look at AM3’s one-of-a-kind Alabama White Marble.

While Alabama White Marble will be AM3 Surfaces’ specialty, the showroom also will offer granite, quartz and other natural surfaces. In addition to stone countertops, the showroom will also provide a selection of tiles.

A website for the showroom also will be going live soon, and will include a virtual kitchen visualizer for customers to experiment with different stone and kitchen color combinations. “It’s a great tool, there’s so much to choose from,” said McDonald. “I think it’ll be huge for customers to see what the stone looks like in their homes.”

AM3 Surfaces quietly began operations in March, but due the COVID-19 pandemic, sales have been over the phone. Supply has also been an issue. “It’s delayed us getting our stock in initially, but we’re very, very close to having everything set up and ready to go,” said McDonald.

AM3 operates out of a factory in Bessemer and sources its raw materials from a quarry in Sylacauga, which has been in operation since 1838. It is the nation’s leading supplier of Alabama White Marble, which is sold both domestically and internationally. Dubbed the “world’s whitest” marble, the stone can be found in the United State Supreme Court Building, the Lincoln Memorial and other historic works of architecture.
