CALERA – The Calera Police Department is taking steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the department after an officer tested positive for the virus on Sunday, June 28.
“All employees who worked with the officer were immediately tested and we are awaiting those results,” CPD Chief David Hyche said. “Those officers and employees are quarantined and will remain so until it is safe for them to resume working. All employees will have their temperature taken when they arrive for duty and any with elevated temperatures will be sent for testing.”
Family members and other residents who may have come into close contact with the officer who tested positive have been notified, Hyche said.
The CPD offices, jail and all vehicles were immediately cleaned and disinfected as soon as officials learned of the positive test result, he added. These areas will also be disinfected on a routine basis.
Police officers and all first responders, health care workers as well as those in the service industry continue to endure a greater risk to their health as well as the health of their families as they serve the public.
