WILSONVILLE — The town of Wilsonville will celebrate Independence Day a week early with a fireworks show on Sunday, June 28; however, the annual God and Country Celebration has been postponed until September.

The community as a whole will come together Sunday evening to celebrate with fireworks at approximately 8:45 p.m. in the town center.

“We are having a normal fireworks event this Sunday, June 28,” said Matt Jones, minister of music at Wilsonville Baptist Church. “It’s just for the community, so hopefully people can enjoy a sense of normal even though we can’t do what we normally do.”

Jones emphasized that the fireworks show is for the entire community. The church typically organizes the Wilsonville God and Country event, but this year, due to COVID-19, that event has been tentatively postponed until Sept. 6.

The God and Country event includes food, music, inflatables and activities, which will not be taking place as part of Sunday’s event.

The fireworks display can be viewed from the gazebo parking lot, Main Street in front of the church or from Central Park across Alabama 25. Spectators are asked to arrive early to claim a spot that will allow for social distancing, in accordance with state and local guidelines—generally speaking, this requires “six feet of separation between persons who do not share the same household.”
