ALABASTER – Alabaster’s annual July Fourth fireworks show will take place in a new location this year.

The show is set to begin at 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, at the Thompson High School campus, Alabaster Parks and Recreation Director Tim Hamm said.

In previous years, fireworks had been shot from the east side of Alabama 119. Spectators set up at various locations such as Thompson Intermediate School, Thompson Middle School and the Publix shopping center.

The new location will showcase Thompson High School and allow spectators to congregate in a single area.

Future plans could include food trucks and additional attractions to turn the occasion into more of an event, but social distancing guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic forced the postponement of those plans, Hamm said.

The fireworks will still likely be visible from other locations in the city, such as the Publix shopping center, Alabaster Municipal Park and perhaps even the Promenade shopping center.

However, no test fire was conducted this year, so the only way for residents to ensure they see the fireworks is to park at the THS campus.

The fireworks will be launched from an area near the THS athletic facilities, so the best viewing areas will be the parking lots around those facilities, including Warrior Stadium, and behind the school.

APH Radio will offer music to coincide with the show, which will be about 15 minutes long, Hamm said.

“We’re just really encouraging people to come up and park in the parking lot and enjoy the show while still adhering to social distancing,” Hamm said.
