CALERA – Downtown Calera saw three business ribbon cuttings, a drive-in movie and much more on Saturday, June 6.
Calera Main Street Executive Director Jackie Batson called the Grand Reopening Celebration “a big success.”
The event began with a triple ribbon cutting at Sun Esthetic & Spa, The Garage Kickboxing and R.O.E. Hobby.
Distancing guidelines were in place throughout the day.
A large group of people attended each of the ribbon cuttings, Batson said.
“Usually everybody is just thrilled to have one at a time,” Batson said and added that it was especially significant to welcome three new businesses to town following the COVID-19 pandemic.
And another new business, Creations Galore & Moore, which will celebrate its opening soon, gave away samples to attendees.
A drive-in movie concluded the day. “Scoob” was screened in the space behind the businesses downtown, in an area that is now called Calera Courtyard and that is slated for improvements like paving and beautification.
The movie was sponsored by Collectivus Church, which also provided popcorn.
Many attendees watch from inside their vehicles, and others sat on their tailgate.
“It went over so well that we’ll probably do it again,” Batson said.
Various food trucks were available at the event, with different ones on site for lunch and dinner, Batson said.
The rest of the day will be filled with family-friendly activities, door prizes, giveaways, food trucks, demonstrations and more.
“We just want people to know they can come to downtown Calera and hang out and have a good time,” Batson said.
In addition to the cake samples, there were coffee samples from Adventurer’s Coffee Co.
Demonstrations included kickboxing by The Garage Kickboxing, gaming by R.O.E. Hobby and dance by Calera Dance Academy.
