HOOVER – The Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce has announced this year’s winners of its annual scholarships.

Winners include:

Chloe Arnold – winner of the Bill and Dr Gail Powell Scholarship

A 2020 Hoover High School graduate, Chloe will attend UAB in the fall as a Dean’s Scholar. She will pursue a degree in nursing, with hopes of one day working at Children’s Hospital. She also has plans of attending law school after five years of nursing to become a nurse attorney. Her ultimate goal is to be an advocate for children’s rights.

Chloe was a senior class officer, a member of the Hoover Diversity Council, Peer Helper, on the Year Book Staff and a past Finley Award winner.

William (Zach) Baker – winner of the Jimmie Stephens Scholarship

A 2020 Hoover High School graduate, Zach will attend the University of South Alabama in the fall. He will pursue a degree in exercise science. He credits his English teacher, Mrs. Gibson for helping him find his passion for his future career, from a class assignment “to shadow individuals in professions we are interested in.” Because of that assignment Zach plans to become a physical therapist specifically for ICU patients.

Zach has honors in writing and digital photography. He also works at Bluff Park Diner.

Camylle Lollar – winner of the Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship

A 2020 Hoover High School graduate, Camylle will attend Auburn University in the fall. She will major in chemical engineering and plans to pursue her MBA. Her career goal is to become an engineering project manager. Her most inspirational experience was working alongside chemical engineering students and professors during her internship at UAB.

Camylle is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Math Honor Society, Business Honor Society, DECA State Vice-President, lacrosse team and swim team. She also serves on the Student Diversity Council, and works at Yogurt Mountain.

Chandler Smedley – winner of the Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship

A 2020 Hoover High School graduate, Chandler will attend the University of Alabama in the fall where she will pursue a degree in chemical engineering.

Chandler is a member of the Hoover High School Marching Band, achieved her Silver Award with the Girl Scouts of America, also a member of Teens Need Teens, Diversity Council, Hoover Soccer Club, and Engineering Academy.

The scholarships are part of the Chamber’s effort to work with the area’s emerging workforce.

The Chamber has given out more than $200,000 in scholarships through the years.

The Hoover Chamber established a 501 (c)(3) non-profit charitable foundation in 2016, so anyone can make contributions to the foundation for scholarships, and take the full amount of the contribution off their income taxes—both state and federal income taxes.Students applying can be from any of the area schools, including all public and private schools, but must either be a Hoover resident, a child of a Hoover Chamber member or a child of a city of Hoover employee.
