ALABASTER – Two buildings in Alabaster’s Siluria area are undergoing renovation to be transformed into retail spaces dubbed Siluria Station.

Two houses on 11th Avenue Southwest, in front of Alabaster City Hall, are being outfitted to accommodate retail and restaurant businesses, said property owner Ken Lindsey, of JBL Holdings LLC. The white two-story building closest to City Hall at the end of the street will be suited for a restaurant, retailer and office space.

Lindsey said he has already rented out one space to a local photographer to use as a photography studio.

The main level of Siluria Station is about 3,500 square feet and is ideal for an eatery. Lindsey plans to divide the space on the second floor into two or three retail/office spaces.

He plans to turn the second building, Siluria Station Annex, into a salon suite with six available spaces to house a spa, a hair salon, a nail salon and other businesses in the realm of health and beauty.

“The Siluria area is an area that’s being developed and restored,” Lindsey said. “I saw an opportunity and decided to act on it.”

Spaces in both buildings are available to view for those interested in leasing space. The renovation of Siluria Station Annex is expected to be complete this summer, while the larger Siluria Station space isn’t slated for completion until the fall.

Lindsey also owns other properties on Railroad Street and 11th Avenue Southwest that he intends to develop in the future.

“I’m excited about the revitalization of the Siluria area and that’s why I’m investing in Alabaster,” he said.

Lindsey said he is working with the city of Alabaster to redo the sidewalk on that street as well. The city has its own project underway in the Siluria area as well. About 6.5 acres of land is being cleared to make way for the Alabaster Justice Center that will sit at the corner of 11th Avenue Southwest and Alabama 119. The city hopes to break ground on the justice center this year.
