PELHAM – A public hearing on a proposal to add 174 lots to the Mt Laurel development has been postponed to comply with guidelines on preventing the spread of COVID-19.
The hearing was scheduled to take place Monday evening at the Shelby County Planning Commission meet at the County Services Building in Pelham.
A public hearing on the master plan amendment requires “public testimony and interaction of an unlimited audience of those interested,” but Centers for Disease Control guidance on COVID-19 suggests entities not holding meetings with an attendance of more than 50 people, so the meeting was canceled.
“Due to request for the interested residents of Shelby County to participate in the public hearing process and the expectation the interested parties would exceed the estimate of 50 people, the Shelby County Planning Commission meeting for March 16, 2020 is canceled,” read a notice from Shelby County. “This meeting and public hearing will be rescheduled with proper required notice at a currently undetermined date in the near future.
The public hearing was to be held prior to a vote by the Planning Commission on a request from EBSCO Development Company for an amendment to the Mt Laurel master plan to identify road and lot configurations for about 174 single-family lots to be known as Hillsong at Mt Laurel.
The development would be located northeast of Mt Laurel Elementary School and south of the intersection of Olmsted Street and Hawthorne Street.
The property is zoned Special District.
Also on the Planning Commission meeting agenda prior to the cancellation was an amendment to the Dunnavant Square Commercial Phase 2 master plan from the original design of two stories to a single story including a shed for screened equipment storage and a propane distribution tank.
