Three cases of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) have been confirmed in Shelby County.

Shelby County’s three cases are among 28 total confirmed cases of the virus in Alabama as of March 16, according to an up-to-date list published on the Alabama Department of Public Health’s website.

Shelby County is one of three counties with multiple cases of COVID-19, as Jefferson County makes up the bulk of the count with 17 cases, while Tuscaloosa County has three.

Other counties listed as having at least one confirmed case of COVID-19 include Baldwin, Elmore, Lee, Limestone, Montgomer and Jefferson, which currently has the most cases at 12.

This latest update came around 1 p.m. on Monday, March 16, which brought the total number of cases up from 22 to 28, while Shelby County’s three is one more than it had on Sunday night.

Testing for COVID-19 is being performed at the Church of the Highlands Grandview Campus starting on Tuesday.

“In an effort to support and care for our Birmingham community, Christ Health Center is partnering with us to open a COVID-19 drive-through testing site open daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at our Grandview Campus starting this Tuesday, March 17,” a post on the Church of the Highlands Facebook page read. “Testing resources are scarce nationally and are limited to those experiencing symptoms of cough or fever or persons who have had direct in-person exposure to someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19. Please help protect these resources by not presenting if you are not certain you need to be tested.”
