With the outbreak of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) schools, several businesses and organizations are closing their doors or limiting their hours to practice social distancing and hopefully keep from spreading the disease.

Below is a running list of businesses that are either closed or with limited hours:

Schools

All Shelby County, Alabaster, Hoover and Pelham City Schools are closed until at least April 6, as is Briarwood Christian School.

Local churches

Several local churches are live streaming their services online instead of hosting in person worship. Check with your church to see the plans moving forward.

Prom

Helena’s prom scheduled for April 4 has been postponed. Other prom postponements or cancelations will be added if they make the same action.

Oak Mountain State Park

Currently open normal hours.

City of Pelham departments

Ballantrae Golf Club
Pelham Civic Complex and Ice Arena
Pelham Public Library
Pelham Racquet Club
Pelham Recreation Center
Pelham Senior Center

Shelby County Courthouse

Shelby County Courthouse is not open to the public and jury trials have been suspended by the Alabama Supreme Court until April 17, 2020. If you need assistance call (205) 669-3760.

City Parks and Recreation

Alabaster, Calera, Chelsea, Helena, Pelham and other parks and recreation departments around the county have closed with spring sports canceled until at least April 6.

YMCA 

All YMCAs in the greater Birmingham area have canceled youth sports for the time being. They are providing emergency childcare for healthcare and first responders and are also requiring members to bring their own towels.

Davis Drugs

The gift gallery is closed and they are only doing takeout orders.

Libraries

Check with your local library, but most libraries across Shelby County are closed until further notice.

Senior Centers

Columbiana Senior Center is closed

American Village 

Closing at noon on Monday, March 16, for several weeks.

The Shelby County Chamber

All events canceled for the next several weeks.

Publix

All locations will be closing at 8 p.m. until further notice.

Walmart 

Normal 24-hour locations will now only be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Winn Dixie

All locations will close at 9 p.m. each day until further notice.

AMC Theaters  

All AMC locations in the country will close for at least six to 12 weeks.

Bath & Body Works

All locations are closed

Restaurants 

Many restaurants are moving to take-out only, while others are limiting to 50-percent capacity with tables at least 6 feet apart.

Chick-fil-a

All locations are doing drive-thru and curbside only. The dining room will be closed to the public.

McDonald’s

All locations are doing drive-thru and curbside only. The dining room will be closed to the public.

Taco Bell

Some locations are closing the inside and using drive-thru only, while others still remain full open.

Starbucks

Many Starbucks across the country are doing drive-thru and order ahead only.

Zaxby’s

Service is limited to drive-thru only.

ABC liquor stores

The following stores will close at the end of business day March 17: Helena, Columbiana, Alabaster, Pelham, Hoover

Utilities

Alabaster Water is closed to all non-employees. For information about payment and other service options for customers, go to AlabasterWater.com. Pelham Water Works will handle all in-person transactions via the drive-thru window effective Monday, March 16.

Starting Monday, March 16, the Columbiana Water Board’s means of customer service operations is drive-through only. Customers can use the online payment service at Columbiana-water.com. Those who have not already registered their accounts with Pay N Seconds and need assistance can call the office at (205) 669-5805.
