HOOVER – Alabama Goodwill held a grand opening on Tuesday, March 3, at its newest donation center, in the Tattersall Park development in Hoover.
Employees and company officials were joined at the event by those curious to learn more about the center, which will offer a convenient donation experience.
“When they are here, they will get great service,” Alabama Goodwill Industries Inc. President and CEO David Wells said. “It’s a very quick and easy process.”
Lynn Sims, project and attended donation center regional manager, explained that donors are encouraged to pull up to the curb right outside the front door of the center. Then, Goodwill staff will help donors unload their items and sort them for efficient processing.
Also, visitors can expect a courteous greeting and timely processing of a receipt if needed.
Four employees will staff the center initially, but that number could grow quickly based on need, Sims said.
“We look forward to our donors having a very good experience here,” Wells said.
Alabama Goodwill accepts everything from clothing and purses to household items and books.
Some items, however, can not be accepted, including bedding.
Though the grand opening ceremony was held March 3, the center at 6215 Tattersall Boulevard began accepting donations from the community Feb. 24.
“We’re very pleased to be here in Hoover,” Chairman of the Board Roger Cartwright said. “We’re here to be a great neighbor.”
Donors can also feel good that their donations are helping provide jobs for those in need, and are 100-percent tax deductible.
Goodwill sells donations in stores to support free training programs and free career centers that connects job seekers with jobs.
