ALABASTER – The city of Alabaster is now accepting applications for Place 4 on the Alabaster Board of Education.
The current Place 4 seat is filled by Derek Henderson and the term ends in June. The new five-year term also begins in June. The deadline to apply for the Place 4 seat is Feb. 29 at 11:59 p.m.
Applications can be accessed online at Cityofalabaster.org. There is a link on the city’s website home page that will direct users to the application where they will complete a form and upload a resume.
The Alabaster City Council appoints city residents to serve five-year terms on the school board. The City Council typically sets up interviews with those who applied for the position in March and appoints someone to the position in April.
There are time commitments that come along with the position. The board meets once per month and may be asked to attend other city or school events.
“This is a critically important position,” City Administrator Brian Binzer said. “Our school system is one of the city’s greatest assets, so it’s important to make sure we have exceptional people on the school board.”
Those who apply must be residents of Alabaster. Having a child in the Alabaster City Schools system is not a requirement to be a member of the board.
