ALABASTER – The Thompson Warriors ran into one of the hottest teams in the county as the Helena Huskies traveled to Alabaster the night of Tuesday, Jan. 28, but the Warriors were up for the challenge and defeated Helena 69-57.
Helena capped off an undefeated season in region play after defeating Chelsea on Jan. 24, and the Huskies looked to keep that momentum going against Thompson.
Thompson ended Helena’s win streak by using a balanced scoring attack that saw three players finish in double figures. In addition, 10 players in all recorded at least one point in the game.
Grant Hopkins, Chaney Johnson and Tre Roberson all led Thompson with 13 points against Helena.
For the Huskies, Daunte Cave led all scorers with 17 points and Caden Pierce finished with 15 points but there wasn’t enough offense to go around as Helena trailed 33-28 at halftime and they couldn’t climb back into the game in the second half.
Thompson’s most successful period came in the third quarter as they finished with 21 points as a team and included three made 3-pointers. The Warriors led 54-45 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Thompson outscored Helena 15-12 to pull away for the 12-point win.
