The Shelby County Reporter and its affiliate newspapers serving Alabaster, Helena, Pelham and the U.S. 280 corridor, are shifting publication days from Wednesdays to Weekends, beginning with newspapers to be published on Saturday, Feb. 1. Wednesday, Jan. 29, is the final Wednesday edition with the first Weekend edition days later.

The new Weekend editions will be delivered to subscribers each Saturday and available countywide early Saturday morning.

“We are pleased to announce the change in publication day as it will allow us to better serve our readers, our advertisers and the community as a whole,” said General Manager of Shelby County Newspapers, Inc. Daniel Holmes. “Our focus on service to our community and telling stories that matter to its citizens remains unchanged as does our commitment to telling those stories on whatever platform a reader prefers  – print, web, mobile and social media.”

With the change, Shelby County residents will have access to each of the company’s five papers every weekend, offering an array of benefits to readers of the community.

“This is an exciting change for us,” Managing Editor Alec Etheredge said. “With more people out and about on the weekends, it makes sense for them to have a fresh copy of our newspaper on newsstands. Weekends have historically been the highest readership days for newspapers, so our shift in publication days will allow readers to enjoy the most current local news available anywhere.”

“The first edition of the Reporter was on May 6, 1843, which was a Saturday. Now, almost 177 years later, the shift back to that historical publication day is both best for the customers we serve and nostalgic,” Etheredge said.
