HOOVER – The national non-profit organization, Wreaths Across America, Mission to Remember, Honor, and Teach, is carried out in part by coordinating wreath laying ceremonies
at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as veterans’ cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and beyond.
Over 500,000 wreaths are expected to be laid among more than 800 cemeteries during this year’s national event scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 14 at 11 a.m.
Hoover-based McLeod Software customer Pottle’s Transportation, located in Bangor, Maine, has been hauling wreaths down to Arlington Cemetery since 2005.
“We’re grateful to be a part of the convoy to Arlington again this year to bring these wreaths to the headstones of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Having companies like McLeod Software sponsor the decals for our trailer allows us to spread the powerful message of Wreaths Across America all the way from Columbia Falls, Maine to Arlington National Cemetery,” said Chelsea Pottle Demmons, vice president of Pottle’s Transportation.
Participation locally will take place at Currie-Jefferson Memorial Gardens South in Hoover, where more than 500 veteran gravesites will be honored with a wreath laying ceremony from donations and volunteers through McLeod Software.
This national event was founded by the Worcester Wreath Company and is made possible through the generosity of transportation companies across America who voluntarily give of their time and vehicles for delivery of wreaths to cemeteries throughout the nation. Thousands of volunteers organize local ceremonies, raise funds, and participate in events in support of Wreaths Across America, which receives no government funding.
