FROM STAFF REPORTS
SHELBY COUNTY – The Alabama Department of Transportation continues a project to add lanes and widen bridges on I-65 from Exit 238 in Alabaster to Exit 242 in Pelham.
Weather permitting, beginning at 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 2, work will begin to install overhead sign bridges. A rolling roadblock with State Trooper assistance is required to perform this work. Duration times for the work will not exceed 20 minutes at a time and should be completed each day by 5 a.m. This work is scheduled for three consecutive night shifts, Dec. 2-4.
This does not complete the project. There will be additional work which includes the final two asphalt layers that are scheduled to begin April 2020.
The contract was awarded to Dunn Construction and Wiregrass Construction as a joint venture for $67.5 million.
Motorists are asked to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this Construction to improve Alabama’s roadways.
ALDOT’s mission is to provide a safe, efficient, environmentally sound transportation network across Alabama. For further information, visit Dot.state.al.us.
