The Birmingham Police Department is investigating the death of a Helena woman found in her truck in a ravine near the Interstate 65 Green Springs Avenue exit.

Tonya Lynn May, 43, of Helena, was declared dead at about 2 a.m. June 8 when a passerby noticed her red Ford F-150 off the interstate’s northbound lane, said Birmingham police Sgt. Johnny Williams.

After the motorist notified authorities, emergency responders arrived on the scene and found May dead in the truck, Williams said. She was the only person found in the vehicle.

As of June 8, May’s cause of death had not yet been determined, said Jefferson County Deputy Coroner J. Long.

The case is still under investigation by the Birmingham Police Department.
