HOOVER – Sponsorships are still available for the Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce’s upcoming golf tournaments, offering the opportunity to help the organization provide scholarships for local students.
The Links for Scholars Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, Oct. 28 at Inverness Country Club, with flights at 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
The four-man scramble tournament will include contests for putting, hole-in-one, longest drive and straightest drive; along with meals and other amenities.
Chamber Director April Stone said that although all the player slots are full, there are still sponsorship opportunities available, including tee green sponsorships for $300 and hospitality tent sponsors for $450.
Anyone interested in sponsorships should visit HooverChamber.org or call 988-5672 for more information.
“Everything we raise will go to our scholarship fund, and those scholarships will be awarded at the April 2020 luncheon,” Stone said.
The fundraising goal for the tournament is $20,000, which usually provides four or five scholarships of about $4,000 each.
“With college costs being what it is, that’s the amount that is going to make an impact for a college student,” Stone said.
The Hoover Chamber has distributed about $200,000 in scholarships, and a non-profit entity was established in 2016 that allows for tax-deductible contributions from supporters.
Scholarship applicants must be employed by, or their parents employed by, a Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce member or the city of Hoover.
Scholarships are available to rising seniors in high school or those pursuing a vocational career.
Applicants must be enrolled in or plan to be enrolled in an undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocation/technical college in Alabama.
