Several Pelham library events lined up for September

PELHAM – The Pelham Public Library recently announced upcoming events taking place in September.

College Admissions Information Session
Join us on Thursday, Sept. 5, at 6:15 p.m. as Lance Beverly, a UAB and Harvard graduate and college counseling expert, provides information on the essentials of the college admissions process. Beverly will provide insights on preparing for the ACT/SAT, what colleges want to see on a student’s resume, how to demonstrate interest to universities, and understanding the financial aid process, including opportunities for aid. Beverly will also provide a generalized timeline to serve as a guideline for you and your student(s). A question and answer session will ensue after his informative and pointed presentation. Space is limited.
Belly Dance for Beginners
On Saturday, Sept. 21, at 2 p.m., the Pelham Public Library would like to invite you to an opportunity to learn American Tribal Style belly dancing from the beginning. Liz from Dala Tribal Dance Company will be teaching a quick beginner belly dance class from 2-3 p.m. Belly dancing is effective in strengthening and toning muscles, improving coordination, increasing flexibility and building confidence. All beginners are invited to join us for a fun and active hour of belly dancing. Please call 205-620-6418 to register, as the class size is limited. Alabama AARP Estate Planning Basics Workshop
Join AARP Alabama and the Alabama Cooperative Extension for a workshop designed to assist you in making plans for the future. The Estate Planning Basics Workshop will provide information on how to organize critical documents and information for you and your family. While making plans for the future may be an overwhelming task it will be greatly beneficial to the entire family. The workshop will be held Sept. 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pelham Public Library. Maximize Your Social Security Benefits
Philip Wilson, radio show host, author and Social Security expert will conduct a free educational workshop at the Pelham Library on Monday Sept. 9 and Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. Wilson has a number of professional certifications in planning areas and one certification (CSSCS) is earned by advisors who have demonstrated expertise in planning for Social Security. Understanding Medicare Seminar
Does Medicare confuse you? Get answers at this seminar provided by Linda Reynolds, an independent insurance agent with 15 years’ experience. The presentation, on Sept. 18 at noon, simplifies complex issues such as the Medicare parts, enrolling and more. Hundreds age into Medicare each month in this area. It is a complex and confusing process for most individuals. Attend this program and get the facts. The seminar is free and open to the public. Free Morning ESL Classes
English as a Second Language progressing to GED Class every Tuesday 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This class is designed for all levels of English Language Learners – beginning through advanced and preparation for the GED exam. Free Evening ESOL Classes (English for Speakers of Other Languages)
Adult learners who seek to learn English are invited to these classes which are to be held every Thursday from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Pelham Public Library beginning March 7. Classes will be taught by a tutor who has been trained and is supported by the Literacy Council. For more information or to reserve a seat, please call The Literacy Council at 205-326-1925.
