NORTH SHELBY – Asbury United Methodist Church’s Giggles & Grace baby and child consignment sale has grown over 12 years into one of the area’s largest events of its kind with about 425 sellers and more than 1,000 shoppers.

“It began with two church members and we are grateful to them for that leap of faith,” Publicity Co-Chair Jennifer McInnish said.

This year’s fall Giggles & Grace consignment sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 7. Another sale is held each year in the spring.

The church is located at 6690 Cahaba Valley Road in North Shelby County.

The sale offers everything from quality seasonal clothing, furniture, toys and baby gear to Halloween costumes and sports equipment at great prices.

Consignor registration is typically five weeks prior to the sale date. The consignors are given a website and login information so they can input the items they wish to sell and whether they would like to donate items that are not purchased.

The consignors set the prices through an online system starting at $3. They are given the option to offer the item at half price on Saturday and either have the unpurchased items returned to them Saturday afternoon at pick up or have those items donated to several mission organizations throughout the community.

A co-chair committee of about 20 volunteers put in many hours of preparation prior to the sale, and church youth also help.

Volunteers are accepted up to the week of the sale. Information about volunteering can be found at AsburyGigglesandGrace.com.

Asbury offers vouchers for those that may need financial assistance. More information about vouchers can be found at AsburyGigglesandGrace.com under the “missions” tab.

Dates are also set when assistance is available for non-English speaking families to apply for vouchers in person.

Applications are due Wednesday, Aug. 28.

More than 50 families typically receive vouchers for shopping, and truck loads of donations are given to local charities including Oak Mountain Missions, Kings Home, Foster Care of Shelby County and the Lovelady Center.
