FROM STAFF REPORTS
The 13th Harvest of Hope Luncheon, benefitting Oak Mountain Mission Ministries, will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at The Club in Birmingham.
A silent auction will begin at 10 a.m. with the luncheon at beginning 11:30 a.m.
Oak Mountain Mission Ministries, located in Pelham, is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides food, clothing, furniture, and financial assistance to those in need in Shelby County and the greater Birmingham area.
Individuals are referred to the Mission from domestic violence and homeless shelters, faith support churches, and social service agencies. Oak Mountain Mission provides food, clothing, household items and financial assistance to screened and qualified clients at no charge.
Founded in 2001, the need for assistance has grown each year and in 2018, Oak Mountain Mission provided assistance to families 6,490 times.
Thanks to the success of Harvest of Hope, the prayers and support of more than 35 churches, and the dedication of more than 300 volunteers, the Mission is able to bring hope to those who desperately need compassion, said Roddy Cooper, director of Oak Mountain Mission Ministries.
Each year the Harvest of Hope Luncheon features a speaker whose actions are helping to strengthen the community. This year’s keynote speaker is Ashley Curry, mayor of Vestavia Hills. Curry’s commitment to service extends beyond his role in government. In 2010, he founded a car ministry to help families in need of reliable transportation.
Since its inception, the Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church Car Ministry has helped hundreds of families secure or repair automobiles and in so doing provide transportation to work and school, and a path out of poverty.
“Mr. Curry’s commitment to serving others is truly inspiring,” Cooper said.
In addition to Curry’s speech, a client will offer a testimony about the impact the Mission has had on their life. WBRC Fox 6 broadcaster Janet Hall is the master of ceremonies for Harvest of Hope.
More than 500 people attended Harvest of Hope last year so reservations are necessary. To sponsor a table or for more information, please contact Oak Mountain Mission at 685-5757 or Oakmtnmissions.com.
