ALABASTER – The city of Alabaster is gearing up to host the second Alabaster Health Fair on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
City Councilwoman Stacy Rakestraw said health fair vendors will be set up inside Alabaster City Hall, Alabaster Senior Center and on the municipal lawn.
Last year, the event took place inside city hall with a few vendors outside, but this year’s event is expected to be bigger and better.
“We had about 400 visitors last year – it was a big success considering it was out first year hosting the event. But this year we’ve expanded and it will be bigger and better.”
Rakestraw said the event will include 40-50 vendors, an interactive kids’ area, health screenings, a special needs expo and more. Seminars about health and fitness, mental health, dementia, stroke signs/symptoms and bariatrics and obesity will take place throughout the event.
The kids’ area will feature a mobile kitchen where kids will learn about healthy eating and two obstacle courses for younger and older children.
Food trucks, such as K&J’s Pastries, Frios Pops, City Bowls, Rooski’s, Pazzo Pizza, and Taco El Tio, will also attend the event.
The Alabaster Fire Department will be there with its pink fire truck and an ambulance will be on site for viewing. Health academy and ROTC students from Alabaster City Schools will serve as volunteers during the event.
The event is a partnership with the city, Shelby Baptist Medical Center and the Angel Warriors Foundation. This year’s sponsor is Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.
