CHELSEA – The Chelsea Public Library has experienced a boom since its move to a new location in March 2018.

In a presentation to the Chelsea City Council on Tuesday, July 2, Librarian Dana Polk said the library has added 580 new patrons and circulation has increased by 17,546 from the same period in the previous fiscal year.

The library was formerly located in the Crane House off Weldon Drive, but a little over a year ago moved to the former Renasant Bank location off U.S. 280.

Also, the library is about halfway through its largest reading program ever, with 417 people registered.

There will be three more Tuesday Movies at the Chelsea Community Center: Bumblebee on July 9, Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse on July 16 and Lego Movie 2 on July 23.

All movies begin at 1 p.m.

Three more summer reading programs are also scheduled: Herpe Journey on July 10, Magician Tommy Johns on July 17, and Starshine Faces Storytelling and Facepainting on July 24.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, the library will host a “Homeschool to High School” workshop at the community center.

The workshop is intended for parents who are planning to homeschool their children through high school.

Then, on Saturday, September 14, the library will host a one-day Writers Workshop that will provide aspiring nonfiction authors with a blueprint for publishing success.

The workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the library, which is located at 16623 U.S. 280 in Chelsea, and registration will cost $195, with all proceeds benefitting the library.

Workshop facilitators will be Jack and Patti Phillips, authors of more than 125 business, professional and self-help books.
