FROM STAFF REPORTS
HOOVER – Alabama’s nationally-recognized First Class Pre-K Program has come to Hoover.
Acceptance to the voluntary, tuition-free program will be through a random drawing to be held on July 12.
Pre-K pre-registration for the 2019-2020 school year began June 19 and runs through July 5.
Enrollment is open to all children 4 years of age on or before Sept. 2, 2019, who are residents of the city of Hoover (children eligible for kindergarten are ineligible for Pre-K).
Enrollees must provide copy of the child’s birth certificate (may be uploaded into the online pre-registration site or submitted directly to the local school/program), and must provide proof of residence—either a current utility bill or copy of a lease or mortgage (may be uploaded into online pre-registration site or submitted directly to local school/program).
Upon enrollment, a child’s immunization record must be provided.
No child will be denied participation on basis of income, sex, race, color, national origin, or disability.
The Pre-K program for which a child is enrolling must be located in the child’s middle-school feeder pattern.
The HCS Jefferson County Pre-K classrooms are at Green Valley Elementary School, Gwin Elementary School, Rocky Ridge Elementary School and South Shades Crest Elementary School.
The only Shelby County Pre-K classroom is at Greystone Elementary School.
Pre-K hours are 7:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
Drawings will be held at the HCS Central Office at 9:30 a.m. (for Green Valley), 10 a.m. (Greystone), 10:30 a.m. (Gwin), 11 a.m. (Rocky Ridge) and 11:30 a.m. (South Shades Crest).
