ALABASTER – This summer the Albert L. Scott Library is offering an array of activities for children and teenagers to take part in. From Lego League to drama workshops and more, there’s no shortage of things to do.

Every Tuesday in June and twice in July, July 2 and July 9, the library is hosting Lego League for children of all ages. Play time is from 4-4:45 p.m. Library intern Samantha Huff said the library provides Lego kits with large bases for kids to construct their creations. Bigger building blocks are also available for younger children.

“The older kids like to build things like castles and horse stables,” Huff said. “They tend to be more meticulous while younger kids and toddlers like to stack them as high as they can.”

Huff said the kids can get competitive when it comes to building castles. She said it’s a great outlet that allows them to be creative.

Alabaster resident Anna Wilson attended the program on Tuesday, June 25, with her 20-month-old twin sons Eli and Joe. As a stay at home mother, Wilson said she is always looking for fun activities for her boys to participate in.

“I really wanted to find something indoors, out of the heat, that they would enjoy,” she said. “With really young kids, it can be hard to find fun and safe things that they are capable of doing.”

Wilson said she also likes Lego League because it helps her sons learn socialization skills. She added that stacking the Legos helps strengthen their hand-eye coordination.
