PPD arrests man, charges him with sexual abuse of child

PELHAM – A Mobile man accused of sexually abusing a child was recently released from the Shelby County Jail, according to jail records.
James Eric Ackermann, 49, was arrested by the Pelham Police Department on April 21 and charged with two counts of sexual abuse of a child younger than 12 years old. The next day, he was released from jail on a $20,000 bond.
According to court documents, Ackermann subjected a child to sexual contact between 2008 and 2009.
A preliminary hearing has been set for Aug. 7 at 8:30 a.m. Ackermann’s case has been assigned to Judge Daniel A. Crowson Jr.
Sexual abuse of a child younger than 12 is a Class B felony that carries a prison sentence of two to 20 years of jail time and fines up to $30,000 in fines.
