The city of Hoover plans to start a program designed to help residents with emergency home repairs this fall.

Mayor Tony Petelos said the program would be for low- to moderate-income residents, senior citizens and the disabled.

The city looks to get $45,000 for the program from a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Petelos said the city plans to partner with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity to perform these home repairs. The city would likely make repairs to windows, roofing and electrical systems, he said.

“We’re still developing the ways we’re going to do that,” he said.

Petelos cautioned that these repairs would not be for all Hoover residents.

“This is what we call emergency home repairs. It’s not a home repairs program,” he said.
