ACS releases proposed 2019-2020 calendar

ALABASTER – The Alabaster City School System has released its proposed 2019-2020 academic year calendar, and is seeing the public’s input before voting to approve it during an upcoming meeting.
ACS recently published the proposed calendar on its website, outlining semester start and end dates, holidays and grading periods for the 2019-2020 school year.
Under the proposed calendar, teachers would return to work for one flex day sometime between July 22 and Aug. 2, and would return to school full-time on Aug. 5 before students returned on Thursday, Aug. 8. A system open house would be held on Tuesday, Aug. 6.
Holidays during the 2019 fall semester would include Labor Day on Sept. 2, Columbus Day on Oct. 14, Veterans Day on Nov. 11 and Thanksgiving break from Nov. 27-29 before the first semester ends on Dec. 19.
The Christmas break would be from Dec. 20-Jan. 2, 2020, teachers would return for the second semester on Jan. 3, 2020, and students would return on Jan. 6, 2020.
Spring semester holidays would include Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 20, 2020, President’s Day on Feb. 17, 2020, a teacher workday on March 6, 2020, spring break from March 23-27, 2020, and Good Friday on April 10, 2020.
The Thompson High School graduation would be on May 19, 2020, and the second semester would end on May 21.
The first grading period would end on Oct. 11, with grades sent home on Oct. 18, the second grading period would end on Dec. 19, with grades sent home on Jan. 7, 2020, the third grading period would end on March 5, 2020, with grades sent home on March 13, 2020, and the fourth grading period would end on May 21, 2020, with grades sent home on May 22.
The public comment period for the proposed calendar is now open, and comments can be sent to ACS.Calendar@acsboe.org for consideration before the document is approved by the city’s Board of Education.
