FROM STAFF REPORTS

Choosing “Jewels in His Crown” as the theme of this year’s Tablescapes event, The King’s Home Shelby Auxiliary will honor former First Lady of Alabama Patsy Riley.

Pam Bradford, chairwoman for the 2019 event, explains, “We chose this theme because every woman at King’s Home Shelby is a jewel created by the Most High God. Each woman is a daughter of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.”

One of the most effective and admired first ladies in Alabama history, Patsy Riley is a true jewel in the important work of reaching out to provide shelter and vital services to women and children at risk.

An accomplished author and devoted grandmother, Riley guided her own young children to help others through sharing and donations.

A charter member of King’s Home Shelby Auxiliary, she hosted auxiliary meetings at the Governor’s mansion during her eight years there, and was a featured speaker for KHSA on many occasions in past years.

A tireless advocate for children, Riley continues to be a fierce champion for families, sharing both resources and time for those in need.

Bee Martin Little, current president of KHSA, is looking forward to this year’s event.

“Patsy Riley’s unwavering support for the women and children of King’s Home Shelby is a glorious example of leadership and giving. We are so pleased that our guest speaker this year will be music evangelist and conference speaker Donna Allen, a close friend to Patsy. Our goals this year include providing financial and volunteer support for the women and children at King’s Home Shelby. Our auxiliary membership dues are only $40 annually, less than most of us spend on a new blouse!”

Kings Home Shelby Auxiliary will hold Tablescapes, its biggest fundraiser of the year, on April 17 at Metropolitan Church of God.

Participants can enjoy many beautifully decorated tables and a silent auction to raise money for King’s Home Shelby which supports women and children fleeing abuse, homelessness, or domestic violence. Money raised will go primarily toward operating expenses for the 13,000-square-foot facility providing safe shelter for women and children in need in Shelby County.

Doors will open for Tablescapes 2019 at 10 a.m. for refreshments and a silent auction headed by Allison Oswald who said, “Partnering with Tablescapes, the silent auction is a way that local businesses and our community can help support the needs of residents and staff at King’s Home in Shelby County. The women and children residing there are offered hope for a new beginning and a fresh start on life. Last year the auction raised approximately $8000. This year, with God’s blessing, we have a goal of $10,000.”

Lunch will follow at noon with the inspirational thoughts of Donna Allen.
