Pelham library announces upcoming February programs

PELHAM – The Pelham Public Library recently announced several programs taking place in February.
These events are free to the public.
Space Travel with Alabama’s Own Astronaut – Dr. Larry DeLucas, Saturday, Feb. 9, 1 p.m.
Pelham Public Library presents Alabama’s own astronaut, Dr. Larry DeLucas. A biochemist at UAB, Dr. DeLucas flew as a payload specialist on Space Shuttle Columbia for STS-50, the U.S. Microgravity Laboratory-1 (USML-1) Spacelab mission. Over two weeks, the crew conducted a wide variety of experiments relating to materials processing and fluid physics. Afterwards, he served as NASA Chief Scientist for the International Space Station. He will talk about his experiments, how they turned out, and his experience as an astronaut. Don’t miss this unique experience to learn firsthand about space travel. Free Social Security Seminar – Thursday, Feb. 7, 6 p.m.
Wilson Financial Group will be hosting free seminars to the public on maximizing Social Security benefits. In these workshops, Philip Wilson will explain how to plan appropriately for retirement income along with how to maximize your Social Security payments. He has been a practicing financial advisor since 1989 and has obtained many professional certifications in the areas of estate and long-term care planning. Paying for College Workshop – Monday, Feb. 11, 6 p.m.
Have a child who wants to attend college? Have no idea how to plan or finance such an important decision? Attend this free workshop at the Pelham Public Library presented by an expert from Wells Fargo! Estimate your education costs, understand the different options to pay for them, and become more financially ready for college. Knowing how you’re going to pay for college is one of the most powerful ways you can set yourself up for success – in college and beyond. Learn how to complete the FAFSA, apply for scholarships, estimate and compare your total costs. You can also determine if you need additional money and explore additional financing options, and learn about important financial aid checkpoints. It is never too early to plan for the future. Spanish Conversation Table – Thursday, Feb. 7 and 21, 6:30 p.m.
Do you speak Spanish but need the opportunity to practice with others? Did you take Spanish classes, study abroad, or go on missions’ trips to Spanish speaking countries? ¿Habla Spanglish? If so, this is the perfect group for you. Our language conversation table offers the opportunity to practice with others. We’ll come together to practice and learn in a fun and casual environment. Registration is not required.
Understanding Medicare Seminar – Wednesday, Feb. 20, at noon
Does Medicare confuse you? Get answers at this seminar provided by Linda Reynolds, an independent insurance agent with 15 years’ experience. The presentation simplifies complex issues such as the Medicare parts, enrolling and more. Hundreds age into Medicare each month in this area. It is a complex and confusing process for most individuals. Attend this program and get the facts. The seminar is free and open to the public. Salesforce – Saturday, Feb. 23, 10:30 a.m.
This is an informal gathering of Salesforce veterans, newbies, and those who want to learn what Salesforce is.
