Here are highlights about this week’s Veteran of the Week: W.C. “Bill” Jones was born in Six Mile, AL in 1890. He was drafted and left his family and farm to serve his country in World War I. Bill served in Battery E, 117th Field Artillery along with many friends from Bibb and Shelby Counties. Upon returning from the war Bill became a coal miner in Aldrich, AL, where he was involved in an accident that ended with the loss of one leg. Bill then became a farmer, caring for his wife and three children. Bill’s three children also served in the Army and the Navy – Mary L. Jones, William Jones and James H. Jones.
