BIRMINGHAM – Tim Puthoff has been named chief executive officer of Brookwood Baptist Medical Center and Tenet’s Alabama and Tennessee Group, which consists of a network of seven hospitals, including Alabaster’s Shelby Baptist Medical Center.
In this role, Puthoff will be responsible for overseeing all strategic, operational and clinical activities at Brookwood Baptist Medical Center, as well as providing oversight and leadership at all five hospitals in the Brookwood Baptist Health system and Tenet’s Tennessee hospital operations.
For the past five years, Puthoff served as CEO of Houston Northwest Medical Center. Under his leadership, Houston Northwest saw significant growth, including increases in admissions, surgeries and ED visits. Throughout his tenure, the hospital excelled in quality and safety initiatives, including recognition on several occasions as a Leapfrog “A” rated facility, achievement of a “Pathway to Excellence” designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center and Texas Ten Step designation for maternity care and breastfeeding support. As well under Puthoff’s leadership, the hospital scored well above national averages in the AHRQ Culture of Patient Safety Survey.
Prior to joining Houston Northwest, Puthoff served in several CEO and executive leadership roles with Community Health Systems and HCA, including roles with multi-facility responsibility. Puthoff holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in health services administration, both of which he earned from the University of Central Florida.
“With more than 20 years of experience in healthcare executive leadership, including four years with Tenet, Tim is an ideal fit to take the reins,” said Tenet Executive Chairman and CEO Ron Rittenmeyer. “His demonstrated track record and breadth of experience will serve our patients well. Brookwood Baptist Medical Center has been a pillar of healthcare for the community for the last 45 years, and I feel confident Tim is the right person to lead the charge to continue to provide healthcare excellence to our patients across Central Alabama.”
