CLANTON – For the second time this season, the Helena Huskies varsity basketball team defeated Chilton County to complete the season sweep on Thursday, Dec. 13, after beating the Tigers on the road 62-34.
Much like the first meeting, the Huskies got off to a fast start and never looked back on their way to the 28-point win.
Offensively, Helena’s biggest weapon was Daunte Cave who went on to lead all scorers with 20 points. Cave did the majority of his damage from the foul line where he went 11-of-12. As a team, the Huskies converted 16-of-23 free throws.
Defensively, Helena held Chilton County in check but not allowing a single player to score in double figures. Chilton County’s top scorer was Keyuntay Kine with eight points.
Holding a 45-31 lead at the end of the third quarter, Helena’s best quarter defensively came in the final period as the Huskies outscored Chilton County 17-3.
Helena saw plenty of contribution from its starters and bench as 10 players recorded at least three points in the win.
The Huskies’ second leading scorer was Caden Pierce with eight points, followed by Jonah Hyde with six points.
After competing in the Childersburg and Springville tournaments to close out 2018, Helena will turn its attention to area play where the Huskies will take on Calera on Tuesday, Jan. 8.
