HELENA – After one month of putting down razors and opting for a bearded look, the local police departments around Shelby County collectively raised $65,000 in a fundraiser benefitting the Wings of Hope Pediatric Foundation.

Starting Nov. 1, law enforcement officials ditched their razors and participated in the monthlong fundraiser.

This fundraiser, which has raised thousands of dollars for the foundation in recent years, helped support families of terminally ill children with some of the things typically needed in order to provide those families with the opportunity to spend more time together, and less time dealing with things that can get in the way.

Departments that participated in “No Shave November” included The University of Montevallo Police Department, Alabaster Police Department, Helena Police Department, Hoover Police Department, Montevallo Police Department, Pelham Police Department, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the Montgomery Police Department.

The Wings of Hope Pediatric Foundation was started in 2010 and the month-long fundraiser raised awareness and continued to contribute to families who need support.

Throughout the month of November, residents and businesses in Shelby County also helped donate proceeds to go toward the Wings of Hope Pediatric Foundation.

At the first of December, a campaign party was held to celebrate the conclusion of the fundraiser complete with food donated by Helena Beef ‘O’ Brady’s, Full Range Entertainment DJ, celebrity guest beard judges and more. The Helena Police Department contributed more than $6,500 to the fundraiser.
