Alabama Rep. Matt Fridy, R-Montevallo, will retain his position in District 73 of the House of Representatives after winning re-election on the night of Tuesday, Nov. 6, in the midterm election.

Fridy, who was voted into office in November of 2014, was up against Democratic opponent Jack Jacobs. With 11 of 13 precincts reporting, Fridy held a 12,889-5,760 vote lead (69.11 percent to 30.89 percent), which was good enough to call the race in favor of the incumbent.

“It feels great,” Fridy said of the re-election. “I have thoroughly enjoyed serving the people of Shelby County and District 43 over last four years and look forward to continue serving during the upcoming legislative term.”

In what was a strong day at the polls across the state, Fridy also complimented everybody that got out and voted.

“I’m excited that so many people got out and voted,” he said. “It says a lot about the people of Shelby County, the state of Alabama and this country that so many turned out to vote regardless of who they were voting.”

Fridy said he is looking forward to continuing work on issues that are important to the people of District 73 such as infrastructure issues, quality of life issues, support for small business and creating a business friendly atmosphere for job creators.

One key project he pointed out was the widening of Interstate 65, which runs through the middle of Fridy’s district. It’s a project that has finally gotten under way, and the start of many infrastructure projects across the area he hopes will take off.

Fridy is also a big advocate of public safety and voiced his thoughts on first responders.

“I have worked hard to be a strong voice for public safety for our first responders, and I plan to continue being a strong voice and advocate for first responders in the upcoming term,” he said.
