Vincent drops regular season finale at Ashville

ASHVILLE – Vincent dropped its third-straight game to close the regular season, falling on the road at Ashville, 56-12, in a non-region game.
The Class 4A Ashville Bulldogs took an early 7-0 lead, but Vincent charged ahead to go up 12-7 by the end of the first quarter. Malik Hamilton scored the Yellow Jackets’ first touchdown on a 60-yard pass from Dusty Davis with 4:36 to play in the opening quarter, and then freshman Jamarey Lawson picked off a pass for an 85-yard pick-six late in the quarter. The Yellow Jackets missed both extra point tries.
The Bulldogs took advantage of a pair of Vincent fumbles in the second quarter, scoring after both to go up 22-12 and stretched the lead to 35-12 at halftime.
Ashville (2-8) tacked on a touchdown in the third and fourth quarters to shutout Vincent in the final three quarters of play to close the Bulldogs’ season. The Yellow Jackets played its reserve players most of the second half.
Davis finished the game 4-of-17 passing for 74 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Chris Hardie was the Yellow Jackets’ leading rusher with 64 yards on 12 carries.
Vincent (3-7) secured the No. 4 seed out of Class 2A, Region 4 on a tiebreaker to advance to the playoffs. The Yellow Jackets will travel to Abbeville (9-1), the No. 2 seed from Region 2, on Nov. 9 for a first round AHSAA Class 2A playoff game.
