HOOVER – Spain Park’s football team continued its late-season surge with a 42-21 homecoming win over Tuscaloosa on Friday, Oct. 26.
After dropping six consecutive games, the Jaguars (3-6 overall, 2-5 in Class 7A, Region 3 play) snapped the slide with a win over Oak Mountain last week.
Now with the win over the visiting Wildcats (2-7, 1-6), SPHS has a chance to end its season with a three-game winning streak.
On Oct. 26, quarterback Mason Pronk led the Jaguars in passing (eight completions in nine attempts for 217 yards and two touchdowns) and rushing (16 carries for 122 yards) on the way to the win.
Jalen Henderson started the scoring with a 14-yard touchdown run, and Drake Tabor added the point-after to make it 7-0 Spain Park about 3 minutes into the game.
Pronk then threw a 62-yard touchdown pass to David Moultry to make it 14-0, Henderson added a one-yard touchdown run seconds into the second quarter and Pronk added a six-yard scoring run to extend the lead to 28-0 about halfway through the second quarter.
Moultry caught four passes for 95 yards.
Tuscaloosa County finally got on the board with 1:18 remaining in the first half on a one-yard run by Brylan Jackson, but it was more Spain Park in the second half.
Pronk passed to Kameron McDaniel for an 85-yard score about a minute and half into the third quarter, and then Henderson put the game away with a 13-yard run with about 3 minutes on the clock in the quarter.
Henderson finished with 95 yards on 18 carries.
Tuscaloosa County added a couple of late scores but never threatened the Jags’ lead.
Spain Park outgained TCHS 467 yards to 258 and picked up 23 first downs to the visitors’ 15.
Richard Moses led the Jaguars’ defense with 4.5 tackles, and Josh Wallace had four tackles and one sack.
Spain Park visits Shades Valley on Nov. 1 for the final game of the season.
