TUSCALOOSA – Coming off a relatively easy sweep against the Oak Mountain Eagles on Thursday, Oct. 4, the Thompson Warriors were looking for their second consecutive area victory on Tuesday, Oct. 9, when they traveled to Tuscaloosa County to take on the Wildcats for the second time this season.

In a matchup the Warriors won 3-0 via sweep back on Sept. 27, it looked almost like déjà vu when the two met again thanks to another dominant sweep by Thompson.

This time around, each set was closer than the first matchup between the two, but Thompson still won each set by at least six points to complete the season sweep of the Wildcats in the regular season.

From the first set, Thompson looked primed and ready for the match, jumping out to a lead and never looking back.

While Tuscaloosa County attempted to make it close, the Warriors were the better looking team to start the match and eventually pulled away for an eight-point 25-17 victory.

That propelled Thompson moving forward, and the second set was even more lopsided. The Warriors, like the first set, were able to take advantage of the momentum they had built throughout each of the two sets, thanks to sustainability of serve, and win the second set 25-16 to take a 2-0 advantage.

In the third set, Thompson had a slight setback as the Wildcats competed much tighter than the previous two sets, but like those two sets, the Warriors were able to pull away again.

For the third consecutive set, Thompson had held Tuscaloosa County to under 20 points to pull off the sweep.

In their two matches, the Warriors didn’t drop a set to the Wildcats taking them down by a combined 6-0.

With the area tournament less than two weeks away on Oct. 22, Thompson looks like a favorite to advance to the postseason alongside Hoover thanks to a slight down year for Oak Mountain and a clear advantage over Tuscaloosa County.
