PELHAM – Several activities have been planned for Pelham’s homecoming week, which kicked off Oct. 9 and continues until Oct. 13.

The highlight of weeklong festivities is the city’s fourth Panther Prowl Parade, which will take place on Thursday, Oct. 11, at 5:30 p.m. Following the parade, Pelham City Schools Foundation’s first ever event and fundraiser, a community pep rally, will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the youth football field at Pelham City Park.

The parade will last about 30 minutes and will begin at Pelham High School and proceed down Bearden Road. It will end at Pelham City Park in the large parking lot adjacent to the baseball fields on the Bearden Road side. A variety of groups from the high school, middle school and Parks and Recreation youth sports teams will be participating in the parade.

The Community Pep Rally will be a festive atmosphere for all ages, said PCS Foundation president Jim Sumpter. The foundation was officially formed in March 2018 and the pep rally will help the organization raise money.

Sumpter said the foundation’s strategic plan outlines three priorities – teacher excellence, student preparedness and community pride.

“Everything we do will fall into one of those categories,” Sumpter said. “The pep rally, of course, aligns with community pride. As we raise money we hope to give back to the schools in the two other areas.”

Pelham spirit items, such as cups and clothing, will available for purchase. There will also be a raffle, food trucks, activities for kids and a DJ. For added entertainment, there will be a Faculty Face-off Dance/Lip Sync Battle featuring a group of performers from each school.

Sumpter said the foundation hopes to make the pep rally an annual event.

The community is also welcomed to attend Powder Puff Kickball at 6 p.m. and Powder Puff Flag Football at 7 p.m. at the PHS stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 10. Admission is $5.
