PELHAM – The proceeds from two Pelham Fire Department fundraisers will go to breast cancer research in Alabama, according to Fire Chief Tim Honeycutt.

Residents are encouraged to participate in one of the fundraisers by donating $100 to have a fire hydrant in the city painted pink in honor or memory of a loved one who has battled breast cancer. The PFD will also place a sign by the hydrant with the name of the loved one on it.

Honeycutt said residents will be allowed to pick out which hydrant in the city they want painted pink.

The PFD also has T-shirts on sale for $15. Sizes range from small to 2XL. Residents can purchase a T-shirt or sponsor a hydrant by visiting Station No. 1 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“This especially hits home for us because one on our own, our administrative assistant Robin, was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year,” Honeycutt said. “She’s doing really well with her treatments and we’re so proud of her. It was an early detection with her, which is so important because it can improve your outcome. What she’s going through has really added that personal touch for us this year.”
